While others talk about bringing cleaner movies to theatres on
an ongoing basis, one company is actually doing it. Visiplex Family
Entertainment, a sister company to Feature Films For Families, is
dedicated to bringing quality G-rated entertainment to theatres
in every community.
As an advocate for family values and positive role models, Visiplex
Family Entertainment is in the process of securing contracts with
theatres across the country to dedicate space for 52 weeks per year
to films that are free of violence, obscenity and sexual content.
In most instances, the theatres will agree to show the Visiplex
Family Entertainment films primarily during weekend matinees.
Representatives from several national theatre chains such as Carmike
Cinemas, Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark USA, Goodrich Quality
Theatres and Marcus Theatres have already agreed to
be part of the Visiplex program. Carmike’s Robert Scarborough said, “We share the belief
that families want to see films in our theatres that are uplifting
and free of graphic violence, obscenities and sexual content.”
Negotiations are currently under way with several other chains
and independent exhibitors that feel this is exactly the kind of
entertainment families are seeking.
Forrest S. Baker III, CEO of Visiplex Family Entertainment, said
this program provides a means for families to take a stand for the
values they teach in their homes. “For years, people have
complained to theatre managers that there is nothing worthwhile
for family viewing, and they want more family- friendly entertainment.
This program gives people the opportunity to show that they mean
what they say,” said Baker. “It’s a way for families
to disprove Hollywood’s complaint that families are all talk
and no action.”
According to Brett Payne, executive director of Visiplex Family
Entertainment, the company’s goal is to show Hollywood that
families are supporting good, value-oriented entertainment by taking
their families and friends to their local theatre to see these uplifting
productions.
“Our belief is that all people, especially children, are
affected and influenced by the entertainment they view,” Payne
said. “As our mission states, we believe millions of families
feel helpless against the harmful influences of the media and yearn
for excellent entertainment in theatres that supports their family
values and provides a positive influence for the viewer.”
